"Our goal should be to make this a prosperous and well-cared-for place in a short period of time." Anna Hakobyan
The Dilijan Composers' Creative House, which has a 600-member concert hall acoustics which is typical of churches, was created in the 1960s. This unique creative center was once a favorite place for rest and work for many well-known Armenian and foreign intellectuals.
The Dilijan Composers Creative House in the Soviet period was our national pride and wealth. Situated in a magnificent corner of Armenia's beautiful nature, this unique cultural island was a great opportunity for many foreign artists to visit Armenia.
The great composer Shostakovich wrote the music for the film "Hamlet" in Dilijan Composers' House. He stayed there, as well as well-known Armenian composer Arno Babajanyan, painter Martiros Saryan, Russian composer, pianist Rodion Shchedrin, Art director of the Mariinsky Theater of St. Petersburg Valery Gergiev, famous Russian ballet dancer Maya Pliserskaya and composer John Ter-Tadevosyan are among the many guests, who have left a beautiful part of their life story under the hospitable floor of the Composers House.
Today, however, a number of problems have disrupted the creative life of the House.
The chairman of the Union of Composers of Armenia Aram Satyan introduced the participants to the building conditions, as well spoken about the past, the good times of the house, as well as present goals.
As a result of the visit, an agreement was reached with the joint efforts of the “My Step” Foundation, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia and the Union of Composers of Armenia to develop and implement a comprehensive renovation and development program for the Dilijan Composers Creative House. After the successful launch of the program, an international festival dedicated to the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven will be held next year in the Concert Hall of the Creative House.
“Our goal should be to make this place, in a short time, a thriving and highly cared-for place where one can enter and share in all the glorious history. This house should become a hospitable place for festivals, international events of musical art,” said Anna Hakobyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of My Step Foundation.
My Step Foundation is confident that with the joint efforts and support of Dilijan Composers Creative House, it will bring a breath of new life into the international cultural arena.
